Ayurvedic Treatment

A) Promotive & Preventive Health Care

Ayurvedic medicine is essentially promotive & preventive in approach. However, it also provides a comprehensive system of curative medicine for the treatment of sick, adopting a unique holistic approach. Ayurveda conceives a four dimensional definition of health. Ayurveda defines health as Swasthya i. e. a state when an individual is in a state of balance of three doshas, the thirteen Agnis, seven dhatus & the malas i. e. he is in the state of total biological equilibrium besides being in the state of sensorial, mental, emotional & spiritual well being. Thus ayurveda presents the most complete definition of health for the first time. The ayurvedic texts describe a comprehensive schedule of health regimen for preservation of a health as a code of health conduct popularly known as Swathavritta.
1. This include a daily code of health conduct (dincharya),
2. Conduct for night (ratrichrya)
3. Conduct in relation in various seasons (rutucharya)
4. Details about life style, diet exercise, personal & social hygiene (sadvritta)
5. Ayurveda also describes in detail the role of periodical biological purification measures i.e. Panchakarma & consumption of restorative remedies called Rasayan for promation health, longevity & immunity.

B) The Cure & Its Approach
The object of curative treatment in Ayurveda is to restores balance of dosha. Because according to Ayurveda a disease is nothing but a state of imbalance of doshas.

C) The Rational Ayurvedic Therapy
The principles of Ayurvedic pharmacology are fundamentally different from those of other systems of medicine, especially evidence-based medicine. Most Ayurvedic medicines are prepared form herbs.

The Rational Ayurvedic Treatment is Carried Out In Two Parts

1. Samshodhan (panchakarma) or purification therapy

2. Samshaman or curative therapy/ alleviation.

Samshodhan (panchakarma) therapy aims to purify the body from gross to subtle levels & to clean the channel of the body to enable free flow of nutrients, medicaments & metabolites. The living human body consists of innumerable channels called Srotas. Due to ill health, wear & tear of these channels, get blocked & sluggish. Ayurveda advocates that these channels should be cleaned by Samshodhan measures in order to enable the organism to heal itself by spontaneous recovery & also to enable the medicaments to reach the target sight more easily. Thus samshodhan is considered as a prerequisite for all kind of medications & therapeutic interventions. Samshaman Ayurveda operates on the precept that various materials of vegetable, animal, and mineral origin have some medicinal value. The medicinal properties of these materials have been documented by the practitioners and have been used for centuries to cure illness and/or help to maintain good health. Ayurvedic medicaments are made from herbs or mixtures of herbs, either alone or in combination with minerals, metals and other ingredients of animal origin. The metals, animals and minerals are purified by individual processes before being used for medicinal purposes.
